Oualidia owes its name to Sultan al-Walid ben Zidan, who had a kasbah built on the Atlantic coast in the 17th century. The true story of the place, however, is written by the water: by the tides, the fishing boats and a coastal culture that remains closely connected to the lagoon to this day.
From a former fishing village, a quiet, stylish coastal town has developed, known today above all for its lagoon, its oyster farming and its relaxed character.

In El Jadida, the fortress walls, bastions and alleyways of the UNESCO-protected Portuguese town of Mazagan tell of the history of the old trading port. Safi remains a centre of Moroccan ceramic art to this day, where in the potters’ quarter artfully painted, one-of-a-kind pieces are created using traditional techniques.
