Explore Morocco through its most atmospheric places and experience the magic of wandering through ancient medinas, bustling souks and timeless city quarters filled with history, charm and authenticity.

The youngest medina in Morocco

Casablanca

Compared to the modern, western-influenced metropolis, the old town feels like a completely different world. Narrow alleyways, small bazaars, goods transported on traditional carts, colourful water sellers, craftsmen and artisans bring authentic oriental life to the streets. Casablanca’s medina is considered the youngest old town in Morocco, as it was rebuilt after the devastating earthquake of 1755.

The magnetic atmosphere of the souks

Essaouira

Essaouira’s souks beautifully showcase Morocco’s rich craftsmanship traditions. Discover stunning Berber carpets, fabrics, hand-painted ceramics, leather goods, wooden handicrafts, spices and traditional wool hats. The atmosphere is unique – a place to wander, admire, photograph and immerse yourself in the vibrant spirit of Morocco.

A living medieval jewel

Fes

Explore the world’s largest medieval old town and lose yourself in a labyrinth of nearly 9,000 alleyways. Fès el Bali, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is one of Morocco’s most fascinating cultural treasures and still fully inhabited today. Discover everyday Moroccan life surrounded by magnificent historical buildings, lively markets, traditional shops and colourful Zellij-tiled fountains.

The largest souk in North Africa

Agadir

The famous Souk El Had, North Africa’s largest urban market, welcomes visitors behind six-metre-high walls and thirteen grand entrances. Inside lies a colourful maze of more than 3,000 market stalls filled with fresh fruit, vegetables, olives, saffron, cumin and regional delicacies such as Amlou. Highlights include handcrafted leather bags, colourful ceramic lamps and beautifully woven Berber carpets created by local artisans.

Medina: idyllic & romantic

Chefchaouen

The azure-blue medina of Chefchaouen is considered one of Africa’s most beautiful old towns. According to legend, the blue colour protects against the “evil eye.” Located in the mountains at 600 metres altitude, the town enchants visitors with fresh mountain air, winding alleyways, charming squares and blue-and-white painted houses. The scent of freshly baked bread and traditional tajines fills the air.

Legendary souks in the medina

Marrakesh

The winding alleyways of Marrakesh’s medieval medina, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, are among the city’s greatest treasures. Surrounded by ancient Berber walls, the bustling souks offer an intoxicating atmosphere filled with Moroccan jewellery, pottery, silverware, oriental lanterns, Berber carpets and countless handmade treasures waiting to be discovered.

UNESCO World Heritage Atmosphere

Rabat

Surrounded by impressive city walls, Rabat’s medina is known for its elegant Andalusian architecture. Built around the historic market, the area is lined with shops selling ceramics, spices and jewellery. The skyline is dominated by the slender minaret of the Great Mosque, whose origins date back to the Middle Ages.

Vibrant, Authentic & Exotic

Tangier

Tangier’s medina may not be Morocco’s largest, but it is one of its most authentic. Experience the lively atmosphere of everyday Moroccan life through local markets, exotic aromas and traditional craftsmanship. Each trade has its own quarter, creating a unique rhythm throughout the city. Enjoy shopping at the gateway to Africa before relaxing with a mint tea on one of the shaded terraces.
