Deserts tell stories

Deserts tell
stories

Every grain of sand – and every star in the desert sky – is in motion. Yet these unique landscapes appear constant, silent and timeless, like a still life. Our loud, fast-paced and overcrowded lives stand in strong contrast to this. If you embrace the adventure of the Moroccan desert, it becomes a place of longing, retreat, self-reflection or personal challenge – depending on what you need most.

What to bring
Cap, hat or scarf protect against intense sunlight (UV 50+ recommended) and keep sand away from your face. Bring UV-protection sunglasses (ideally category 3–4) and sunscreen with a high SPF (minimum SPF 30) to protect against the intense desert sun.
Especially important in winter, as deserts can cool down significantly at night. Temperature differences of up to 20–25°C are possible. Long, comfortable trousers (ideal for camel riding) protect against sand, sun and friction. Lightweight, breathable fabrics are ideal.
For hiking and trekking, robust closed shoes with good soles are essential. They protect against hot sand and provide stability on uneven terrain.
Wet wipes or hand sanitiser are practical as water sources are often limited. A small quick-drying towel can also serve as sun or sand protection.

Be sure to pack your camera or phone in sandproof protection. Waterproof or sand-resistant cases prevent fine sand from entering the devices. A power bank is recommended. A flashlight or headlamp (preferably LED with spare batteries) is particularly useful for overnight stays in the desert.

At least 2–3 litres per person per day, more for longer tours or extreme heat. To avoid leaving waste in the desert and protect the environment, always carry a plastic bag for rubbish.
Timeless contemplation

Arriving in the desert means coming to rest. Free from distractions and open to a unique natural spectacle of sunrises and sunsets in colours that warm heart and soul.

A retreat for the soul

The desert liberates. Whether through yoga and meditation or desert trekking, it becomes easier to recognise what truly matters, breathe deeply and recharge with new energy.

Climate & best time to travel

Morocco’s deserts have a hot desert climate with extreme temperature fluctuations, very low rainfall and abundant sunshine.

The best time to visit is September to May for quad tours and camel trekking.
Autumn offers stable conditions, while in spring the oases begin to bloom.
