Good to Know
Understanding and respecting Moroccan customs and traditions is crucial. Learn basic Arabic phrases such as greetings and polite expressions. Also, be aware of cultural norms regarding dress code, especially in more conservative areas.
Marrakesh typically experiences hot, dry summers and mild winters, while the Merzouga Desert can be extremely hot during the day and cold at night. Pack accordingly with lightweight, breathable clothing for the day and warmer layers for the evenings.
ITINERARY
Day 1
Marrakesh
When you arrive at Marrakesh Menara Airport, we will be there to welcome you and take you to your hotel in comfort. Settle in and, if time permits, enjoy some free time before dinner and a good night’s sleep in Marrakesh.
Day 2
Marrakesh – Ouarzazate – Dadès Gorges
At 8am, you depart for Morocco’s great south, crossing the High Atlas range via the Tizin n’Tichka mountain pass, the highest major pass in the country at 2,205m above sea level. Enjoy a visit to the village of Aït Benhaddou, a historic ksar (fortified village), and a superb example of Moroccan earthen clay architecture. It’s been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1987. From there, it’s onwards towards Ouarzazate and the Valley of the Roses. Discover oases, mountains and kasbahs, splendid against the backdrop of snowy Mount M’Goun. After lunch, you travel on to the spectacular Dadès Gorges where you check into your hotel for dinner and a good night’s sleep.
Day 3
Dadès Gorges – Todra Valley – Merzouga
After breakfast, it’s time to head for the astonishing Todra Gorges with canyon walls that reach over 400m in height. The Todra Valley retains its architectural heritage with around forty ksars and kasbahs and the aptly named Road of a Thousand Kasbahs. From there, it’s onwards to the desert and Merzouga’s spectacular sand dunes which extend over several kilometres. Enjoy a one-hour camel ride at sunset before settling in at the camp and tucking into a typical dinner of delicious Moroccan cuisine served in a nomadic tent. Spend the night in a traditional tent with all the comforts of a hotel.
Day 4
Merzouga – Marrakesh
At dawn, you have the option to admire the sunrise from the back of a camel. Enjoy breakfast at the camp before the drive back to Marrakech. Arrival in the early evening. Dinner and accommodation at your hotel.
Day 5
Marrakesh
After breakfast, enjoy some free time until your private transfer to the airport
