A Change of Perspective

Beyond Marrakech, the world slowly grows quieter. The colours lose their volume, the sky gains space, the Atlas draws closer. The Agafay Stone Desert is a landscape that asks nothing of you – and for that very reason sets so much in motion.
A retreat in the Agafay Stone Desert near Marrakech, weaving nature, movement, mindful deceleration and encounter into a journey that lets you come to rest, opens the senses and clears the way for new perspectives.

Arriving. From below, the plateau looks almost unremarkable. Yet with every step you climb, the vastness opens up. At the top, Agafay lies before you: the stone desert reaching all the way to the High Atlas, and the soft transition from earth into sky. A place with an energy all of its own – as though, for a moment, you become part of the sky itself. Utterly pure. Utterly vast. Utterly at one with yourself.
And later, in the panoramic pool: bathing between heaven and earth, carried by that very energy, while your gaze drifts across the stone desert to the peaks of the Atlas.
Marrakech slowly disappears behind the first hills. The chatter of the Medina, the colours of the souks, mopeds, people and scents give way to ochre, stone and earth. The road winds through gentle hills. On the horizon, the High Atlas traces its outline against the sky. Then the landscape opens up. And with it, a different way of travelling begins.
Step by step
In the morning, Agafay still lies in soft light. Together with your guide, you follow narrow paths through the stone desert. Over hills, through dry valleys, past places that seem almost empty from afar – and reveal more of themselves with every step. Your own rhythm finds itself. Step. Breath. Gaze. At some point, your hand no longer reaches for your watch. Step by step, the path leads to your centre, to your own balance.
Perceiving
Then, between stone desert and Atlas, water suddenly appears. Lalla Takerkoust lies calmly in the landscape – blue amid ochre and brown, vastness in another form. The contrast could hardly be greater. Dry earth and water. Movement and stillness. Perhaps it is precisely these contrasts that make your eye alert and free again.

Letting go
In the evening, Agafay begins to glow. Ochre turns to gold. Gold to copper. The shadows stretch longer across the hills, until the last contours slowly blur into the night. Your gaze drifts upward. No street lamps. No rows of houses. No light to make the sky any smaller. Only stars. Nature. Life. Simply being human.

Shifting perspective
The senses grow louder in the silence of the stone desert. The bareness of the landscape becomes the space in which perception is sharpened. Listening consciously into the silence, gazing into the vastness of the sky, feeling sand and stone underfoot. Tasting the flavours of the stone desert on your palate. Sensing yourself again.
Nestled between heaven and earth, this place offers the perfect setting for relaxation and personal growth.
Feel the spirit of the stone desert
Guided Desert Hike
The stone desert does not reveal itself at first glance. You have to step into it. Together with your guide, you follow ancient paths through the moon-like landscape, over hills and through valleys, discovering quiet viewpoints and ever-new perspectives – on the High Atlas, on nature and on life. It is not the distance that defines this experience. But the moments of conscious perception.
Rediscovering your own rhythm.
Lalla Takerkoust
After ochre, stone and dust, blue suddenly appears. At Lalla Takerkoust, two landscapes meet that could hardly be more different. The still water mirrors the sky, and behind it the foothills of the Atlas rise up. Created in the 1930s, this reservoir on the Nfis river still supplies the plain of Marrakech with water to this day – a lifeline for people and nature alike. A place to arrive. To gaze. To linger.
Mindful of nature.
Sun, Moon & Stars
The setting sun draws gold and copper across the hills. The contours soften. The warmth of the day gives way to the cool of the desert night. And then the stars appear. Thousands of them. Clear and unspoilt, far from any artificial light. Sometimes it takes no more than this to feel wonder again.
Being fully in the moment.

After hours spent outdoors, warmth awaits.
Steam rises. Water flows over the skin. The traditional Moroccan hammam ritual allows tired muscles to relax and the day to slowly come to an end.
A quiet transition between experiencing and letting go.
Let go. And return with renewed energy.
You arrive in Morocco with baggage. And not all of it fits in your suitcase. A few days later, some of it feels lighter. Perhaps because you walked a little further again. Because you followed a sunset to its very last light. Because a conversation wasn’t interrupted by a phone call. Or because, for once, the horizon didn’t end at the next wall. What you take home cannot be planned. But, at best, it stays with you long afterwards … harmony, calm, energy, new perspectives …
Olive oil. Spices. Vegetables. The aroma of a dish slowly simmered. The kitchen at the stone-desert camp follows the flavours of Morocco and the ingredients of the region. Nose, palate, the senses – all turn to the stories of those behind each plate. Sensing the texture, tasting aroma and flavour. Taking time, perceiving, savouring with awareness. Food is more than stilling hunger. It gives energy, awakens the senses, brings us into balance.
The Seven Saints Agafay camp – your home for a while – sits on a plateau above the stone desert. A small retreat, inspired by the story of the seven saints of Marrakech. Six Desert Lodges and three Private Pool Lodges are spread across the grounds. Natural stone, timber, Moroccan textiles and handcrafted details take up the colours and materials of the surroundings. From the panoramic pool, your gaze sweeps far across Agafay to the peaks of the Atlas …
The Seven Saints of Marrakech have been regarded for centuries as emblems of wisdom, spirituality and guidance. Their story inspired seven brothers to create a place where the landscape of Agafay, Moroccan hospitality and the idea of retreat come together. Perhaps no story belongs here more fittingly. To a place you set out to seek something – and sometimes find something else entirely.
The Saints of Agafay Retreat is for people seeking space, stillness and fresh clarity, who wish to give themselves a few days in which it is not achievement but simply being that takes centre stage. The programme shown here serves as inspiration and suggestion – every retreat is tailored individually to your needs, wishes and personal rhythm.
After booking, you will receive all the information you need on weather and equipment, along with a detailed packing list.
