Imperial City, Atlantic & Stone Desert

Three worlds. One journey. Marrakesh opens the journey with a vibrant mix of souks, palaces, rooftops, colours and scents. Then the landscape changes – and with it, the rhythm. On the Atlantic coast near Taghazout, waves, sunshine and the sea shape the day. The horizons become wider and the pace slows. Finally, in Agafay, everything becomes still. Ochre-coloured hills stretch towards the horizon, with the High Atlas rising behind them on clear days. A dromedary ride in the final light of the day, a table set beneath the open sky and a night surrounded by vast landscapes create an atmospheric contrast to the energy of the Imperial City and the Atlantic. Imperial City, Atlantic and stone desert – three completely different worlds that reveal the contrasting diversity of Morocco on this private journey. Individually planned, with a private chauffeur and entirely at your own pace.

Contrasting Worlds

Certified Button
Certified Button

On this journey, you will experience three completely different sides of Morocco. The centuries-old Medina of Marrakesh, the relaxed way of life on the Atlantic and the stark expanses of Agafay each tell their own story.

The landscape between them changes continuously too – from the Imperial City through the Arganeraie to the coast, before returning to the mineral landscape at the foot of the High Atlas. The journey itself becomes part of the experience.

Destinations & Discoveries

Three destinations, three worlds – and three completely different ways to experience Morocco.

Marrakesh

Taghazout

Agafay

An Imperial City Full of Contrasts

Colours, scents, voices – Marrakesh is an experience for all the senses. Behind the walls of the UNESCO-listed Medina, ornate palaces, hidden riads and souks filled with traditional workshops await.
With your private guide, discover historic squares, artisan districts and the stories hidden behind the façades. In the evening, Jemaa el-Fna transforms: food stalls, musicians and storytellers turn the square into a unique stage for living culture.

What You Will Experience
– Personal welcome at Marrakesh-Menara Airport and private transfer
– Arrival at a selected riad, boutique or luxury hotel
– Private Medina tour with private guide
– Souks, historic palaces and hidden squares
– Jemaa el-Fna in the evening light – particularly atmospheric from a rooftop

Facts & Figures
– Founded by the Almoravids in the 11th century
– Medina designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1985
– The cultural space of Jemaa el-Fna is part of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage
– Traditional artisan districts continue to shape the souks today

What Particularly Fascinates Us
The contrast within just a few metres: one moment, the intense energy of the souks – a few steps later, an unassuming door opens onto a peaceful riad courtyard where the only sound is the water of a fountain.

Where the Atlantic Sets the Rhythm

From former fishing village to relaxed surf hideaway: Taghazout combines the Atlantic, beaches and Moroccan coastal life with one of the country’s best-known surfing regions. Inland begins the Arganeraie – a unique cultural landscape and UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
Here, the pace deliberately slows. Beach or surfboard, fresh fish or spa, an excursion or simply gazing out across the ocean – the day is yours.

What You Will Experience
– Private drive from Marrakesh to the Atlantic coast – up to approximately 4 hours depending on the route
– Stay at a selected hotel or resort
– Time between the beach, pool and Atlantic
– Sunset over the coast
– Optional: surfing lesson or stand-up paddleboarding
– Optional: Paradise Valley or an excursion to Imsouane

Facts & Figures
– Former fishing village north of Agadir
– Internationally renowned for surf spots such as Anchor Point
– The Arganeraie has been a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 1998
– Traditional knowledge surrounding the argan tree is part of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage

What Particularly Fascinates Us
The moment when the clock stops setting the pace and the Atlantic takes over. Waves, wind and light determine the rhythm – and at sunset, you realise just how naturally Taghazout invites you to slow down.

When Everything Becomes Still

Not sand, but stone: Agafay surprises with its stark, almost lunar landscape of ochre-coloured hills and vast horizons. On clear days, the High Atlas rises in the distance. In the late afternoon, the fading light transforms the colours of the stone desert. A dromedary ride at sunset, dinner beneath the open sky and a night at camp create a peaceful counterpoint to the Imperial City and Atlantic coast.

What You Will Experience
– Private drive from the Atlantic coast to Agafay – up to approximately 4 hours depending on the route
– Dromedary ride through the stone desert at sunset
– Dinner beneath the open sky at the desert camp
– Overnight stay in a comfortable private tent
– Optional: quad or buggy tour, or horseback ride

Facts & Figures
– Stone desert rather than classic sand dunes
– Approximately 30 kilometres southwest of Marrakesh
– Characterised by stark plains and gently rolling hills in changing shades of ochre
– On clear days, views extend towards the peaks of the High Atlas

What Particularly Fascinates Us
The final half-hour before sunset: ochre turns to gold, long shadows stretch across the hills – and a landscape that appears almost monochrome during the day changes its character with every passing minute.

Your Home Away from Home

Every journey is as individual as our guests. Whether an authentic riad, boutique hotel, luxury resort or desert camp, we select each property according to your preferences, travel style and the atmosphere of each destination.

On this route, that might mean a riad, boutique or luxury hotel in Marrakesh, a carefully selected property on the Atlantic near Taghazout and a comfortable desert camp in Agafay – all individually tailored to your journey.

Three Landscapes, Three Cuisines

The culinary experience changes with every destination too.

In Marrakesh, the spectrum ranges from tajine and pastilla to a new generation of restaurants reinterpreting traditional Moroccan flavours. On the Atlantic coast, fresh fish and seafood take centre stage – accompanied by regional produce such as characteristically nutty argan oil.

Finally, in Agafay, the setting itself becomes part of the culinary experience: dinner beneath the open sky as the last light disappears over the stone desert.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is this a private or group tour?2026-09-14T13:46:43+02:00

All Pur Life Maroc journeys are operated as private, individual tours. You travel exclusively with your own party, with a private chauffeur and an itinerary individually tailored to you.

How long are the drives between the three destinations?2026-09-14T13:52:52+02:00

For the two longer stages between Marrakesh, the Atlantic coast and Agafay, allow up to approximately four hours of driving time, depending on the route and traffic. The changing landscapes along the way make the drive itself part of the journey.

Can I extend individual stages of the journey?2026-09-14T13:53:21+02:00

Yes. The duration, length of stay and itinerary are individually tailored to your preferences. Each destination can be extended flexibly and combined with additional Private Pur Life Experiences.

Which airport should I fly into and out of?2026-09-14T13:53:43+02:00

The journey ideally begins and ends at Marrakesh-Menara Airport (RAK). We tailor the exact route and transfers to your individual flight times.

What if my return flight departs very early?2026-09-14T13:54:10+02:00

For very early departures, we adapt the itinerary accordingly and can arrange the final night in Marrakesh on request. This ensures a relaxed end to your journey.

Is Agafay a sand desert?2026-09-14T13:54:53+02:00

No. Agafay is a stone desert characterised by stark plains and gently rolling, ochre-coloured hills. It does not have the classic sand dunes found in the Sahara. If you would like to experience Morocco’s great dune landscapes, these can be found on our desert journeys to the south of the country.

Can you see the stars in Agafay?2026-09-14T13:55:15+02:00

Yes. Outside the city, the night sky is considerably darker than in Marrakesh. How clearly the stars can be seen depends on cloud cover, the phase of the moon and prevailing atmospheric conditions.

Can you learn to surf in Taghazout?2026-09-14T13:55:49+02:00

Yes. Taghazout and the surrounding coastline offer surf spots suitable for different levels of experience. The best conditions for beginners depend on the season, swell, wind and individual surf spot. We select the most suitable surf school and session individually.

Is the journey possible during the height of summer?2026-09-14T13:56:13+02:00

Yes. However, Marrakesh and Agafay can become very hot during July and August, while the climate on the Atlantic coast is generally considerably milder. We schedule sightseeing and activities during the more comfortable times of day accordingly.

Will we have a tour guide?2026-09-14T13:56:35+02:00

Your journey takes place with a private chauffeur. At selected destinations, Private guides or local guides accompany you according to your individual travel programme. A private concierge can also be booked to accompany you throughout the journey and take care of organisation and the daily itinerary.

Your private guide will accompany you to one of the most beautiful trekking villages in the Atlas Mountains: Ait Souka. From here you will enjoy breathtaking views of Jebel Toubkal (4,167 m), the highest mountain in North Africa. During the hike you will reach altitudes of around 2,000 metres while passing through picturesque Berber villages. The highlight of the day is lunch with a local Berber family.

The Ouzoud Waterfalls are among the most spectacular natural sights in Morocco. The water cascades down 110 metres in three impressive tiers, surrounded by olive groves and reddish rock cliffs. The area is ideal for hiking and exploring. Highlights include a visit to the Imi n'Ifri natural cave with its red stalactites, watching the local macaque monkeys, swimming opportunities and optional boat rides. Travel time from Marrakesh is approximately three hours.

Golfing in Marrakesh is easy and spectacular. The city offers an excellent selection of courses, including the historic Royal Golf Marrakesh (27 holes), Palmeraie Golf (27 holes), the impressive Amelkis Golf Club (27 holes) and Samanah Golf Club (18 holes). Play between palm trees with breathtaking views of the High Atlas Mountains and desert landscapes.

1900x1000-px

Riding a camel or dromedary is one of Morocco's most traditional and charming ways to explore the landscape. Your guide will take you on a half-day or full-day excursion off the usual tourist paths to discover hidden places and authentic encounters with local communities.

1900x1000-px

Skiing with views of the Sahara desert? It is possible in Oukaimeden, located about 75 km from Marrakesh. From December to April, ski slopes between 2,500 and 3,200 metres altitude offer a unique winter sports experience. Spend the day skiing in the mountains and return in the evening to Marrakesh's vibrant nightlife.

1900x1000-px

A must for adventurers and curious travellers: a hot air balloon flight over the imperial city. From the sky, watch the colourful cityscape of Marrakesh fade into vast desert landscapes and the peaks of the Atlas Mountains. A truly breathtaking experience.

1900x1000-px

Discover the beauty of Arabic craftsmanship during a creative workshop lasting two to five hours. Choose from experiences such as Arabic calligraphy, pottery, mosaic art, wood carving, jewellery design, basket weaving, brass work, embroidery, leather craft or Berber carpet weaving, and gain insight into Morocco's rich artisan traditions.

1900x1000-px

Encounters with local people are often the most memorable moments of any journey. Your private guide will open doors usually closed to travellers. Share a meal in the home of a Berber family and experience the warmth and generosity of Moroccan hospitality.

1900x1000-px

Experience Moroccan culture in a magical One Thousand and One Nights setting. In a traditional Berber tent you will enjoy an opulent dinner accompanied by a spectacular show featuring belly dancers, acrobats, horse riders, fireworks and traditional Moroccan music. A memorable evening of entertainment and hospitality.

Agafay

Activities & Experiences

1900x1000-px

From your Agafay camp, travel to the beautiful Ourika Valley (approx. 50–60 km, 1–1.5 hours by 4×4). Together with your guide, explore traditional Berber villages and visit a local argan oil cooperative. The highlight of the excursion is the Setti Fatma waterfalls, a series of seven cascades with natural pools perfect for cooling off. Enjoy panoramic views of the High Atlas Mountains and lunch in a traditional kasbah.

1900x1000-px

Around Lake Lalla Takerkoust (approx. 20–40 km from the Agafay camps), gentle trails follow the shoreline and surrounding hills, offering beautiful views of the Atlas Mountains. These routes are ideal for one- to two-hour walks. Along the lake you will also find cafés and opportunities for outdoor and water sports such as jet skiing, kayaking and stand-up paddling, as well as quad tours around the lake and towards Agafay.

1900x1000-px

A unique experience: glide for 15–30 minutes above the desert and the Lalla Takerkoust reservoir with views of Jebel Toubkal in the High Atlas Mountains. About 1–1.5 hours from your desert camp lies a well-known paragliding spot at the northern edge of the Atlas. Your tandem flight begins from the Aguergour slope, with launch points between 950 and 1,250 metres, soaring over the Kik Plateau, Berber villages and valleys.

1900x1000-px

A must for the curious and adventurous: a hot air balloon flight over the royal city of Marrakesh. From above, your view drifts from the vibrant colours of the city to the vast desert landscapes and the Atlas Mountains. An unforgettable experience.
