Two Landscapes, One Rhythm
Two landscapes that could hardly be more different. In Agafay, stone, vastness and silence define the horizon. Just a few hours later, everything changes: the air becomes cooler and saltier, the Atlantic breaks against the coast, and beaches and bays replace the stark landscape.
This journey does not try to show you as much as possible. Instead, it connects two distinct worlds in a way that makes the contrast itself part of the travel experience – privately planned, with a private chauffeur and entirely at your own pace.
Why the Stone Desert First, Then the Sea?
The character of this journey lies in the transition. Agafay strips everything back: few colours, wide horizons, silence and a rhythm that seems to slow naturally. Afterwards, the landscape opens onto the Atlantic – with wind, surf, beaches and an entirely different energy.
It is precisely this order that makes both stages of the journey more powerful. From silence, the journey leads to the sea; stillness gives way to movement. How much time you spend in each destination is individually determined according to your travel style.
This journey unfolds in two chapters, connected by just one drive. From Agafay to Agadir, it’s around 240 kilometres via the motorway and takes just over three hours; to Taghazout, around 260 kilometres and approximately three and a half hours. Everything else is yours to enjoy at your own pace.
Agafay – Silence, Space & Starry Skies
Between Marrakesh and the High Atlas begins a landscape that challenges classic images of the desert. Agafay is not a landscape of sand dunes, but a stark terrain of stone and hills in shades of ochre and grey. It is precisely this simplicity that gives it its appeal. A carefully selected camp or stylish lodge becomes your retreat: wide-open landscapes and Atlas views by day, a table set beneath the open sky in the evening, and at night, a sky considerably darker than above the city.

How quickly your perception changes. Less than an hour’s drive from Marrakesh, the sounds of the city give way to wind, horizon and silence – without trying to equate Agafay with the vast Sahara.
Atlantic Coast – Wind, Waves & Wide Horizons On the coast, the journey changes within just a few kilometres. The air becomes fresher, the horizon opens up and the sound of the Atlantic replaces the silence of the stone desert. Beaches, surf spots, fresh fish and long evenings beside the sea set the rhythm. Whether Taghazout or Agadir is right for you depends not on distance, but on your travel style. The two are close to one another – yet offer completely different coastal experiences. Taghazout or Agadir – Your Choice
The second part of this journey belongs to the Atlantic, and you set the tone. The two destinations are only 23 kilometres apart, yet they are distinctly different. We recommend choosing one rather than trying to experience both.
Taghazout – If You Like It Laid-Back
The former fishing village is now one of Morocco’s best-known surfing destinations. Small houses, terraces overlooking the coast, surf culture and a relaxed daily rhythm define the village. Taghazout suits travellers who prefer a boutique atmosphere, everything within easy reach and proximity to the sea over a classic resort experience.
Agadir – If You Prefer Comfort
Agadir offers broad beaches, a promenade, resorts, spas, golf and the infrastructure of a larger coastal city. For those seeking comfort, a pool, service and choice after the simplicity of Agafay, it provides the perfect counterpoint. Souk El Had adds a lively glimpse into everyday city life to the beach and resort experience.

Every journey is as individual as our guests. On Desert Silence & the Sound of the Sea, two deliberately contrasting styles of accommodation sit side by side: in Agafay, a selected camp or lodge overlooking the vast landscape; on the coast, a boutique hideaway above Taghazout Bay or a comfortable resort in Agadir.
The properties we combine depend on your travel style, desired level of comfort and individual itinerary. What matters is that each accommodation enhances the atmosphere of its destination.
In Agafay, the setting becomes part of the meal: Moroccan starters, tagine, freshly baked bread and dinner beneath the open sky as the light fades across the stone landscape.
On the coast, the flavours shift towards the sea. Grilled fish and seafood meet Taghazout’s relaxed café culture or Agadir’s wider gastronomic selection. Argan oil and amlou accompany the journey as typical products of the region.

Agafay is an arid landscape of stone and hills, rather than a sand-dune landscape such as Erg Chebbi. This difference is precisely part of the concept behind Desert Silence & the Sound of the Sea: a stark landscape close to Marrakesh meets the vastness of the Atlantic.
Considerably darker than in Marrakesh, although not comparable with skies deep in the Sahara. Depending on the camp’s location and weather conditions, the glow of the city may remain visible on the horizon.
Depending on the camp and coastal destination, you should allow several hours for the journey. The connection to Agadir is slightly shorter than to Taghazout. You travel privately with a private chauffeur and can arrange stops according to your preferences.
Taghazout is particularly suited to guests looking for surf culture, boutique properties and a laid-back coastal rhythm. Agadir offers more resort comfort, spas, a promenade, golf and urban infrastructure. Together, we select the coastal destination that best suits your travel style.
Desert Silence & the Sound of the Sea can be booked from four nights. We individually determine how the nights are divided between Agafay and the Atlantic according to your preferred pace of travel and planned experiences.
Spring and autumn generally combine pleasant conditions in Agafay with a mild coastal climate. The journey is also possible at other times of year; activities and accommodation are adapted according to temperature, wind and weather conditions.
The quality and facilities of camps and lodges vary considerably. We select accommodation according to your desired level of comfort and clearly specify the exact category and meal arrangements in your individual proposal.
Yes. However, the Atlantic is considerably cooler and more dynamic than the Mediterranean. Surfing and watersports are therefore always adapted to current conditions, experience level and suitable locations.

Marrakesh is an ideal arrival point for Agafay; depending on flight connections and your individual itinerary, Agadir or another suitable option can be selected for your return flight. We plan the route around your current flight options – not the other way around.
Yes. Additional nights in Marrakesh or on the Atlantic coast are particularly easy to incorporate. An onward journey to Essaouira or a combination with other regions of Morocco can also be individually arranged.
A passport that is valid for at least six months upon entry and is undamaged. An ID card is not sufficient. For citizens of Germany, Austria and Switzerland, Morocco is visa-free for stays of up to 90 days. Please check the latest travel advice issued by your country’s foreign ministry before departure.

Agafay
From your Agafay camp, travel to the beautiful Ourika Valley (approx. 50–60 km, 1–1.5 hours by 4×4). Together with your guide, explore traditional Berber villages and visit a local argan oil cooperative. The highlight of the excursion is the Setti Fatma waterfalls, a series of seven cascades with natural pools perfect for cooling off. Enjoy panoramic views of the High Atlas Mountains and lunch in a traditional kasbah.
Around Lake Lalla Takerkoust (approx. 20–40 km from the Agafay camps), gentle trails follow the shoreline and surrounding hills, offering beautiful views of the Atlas Mountains. These routes are ideal for one- to two-hour walks. Along the lake you will also find cafés and opportunities for outdoor and water sports such as jet skiing, kayaking and stand-up paddling, as well as quad tours around the lake and towards Agafay.
A unique experience: glide for 15–30 minutes above the desert and the Lalla Takerkoust reservoir with views of Jebel Toubkal in the High Atlas Mountains. About 1–1.5 hours from your desert camp lies a well-known paragliding spot at the northern edge of the Atlas. Your tandem flight begins from the Aguergour slope, with launch points between 950 and 1,250 metres, soaring over the Kik Plateau, Berber villages and valleys.
A must for the curious and adventurous: a hot air balloon flight over the royal city of Marrakesh. From above, your view drifts from the vibrant colours of the city to the vast desert landscapes and the Atlas Mountains. An unforgettable experience.

Your quad adventure through one of the world’s most beautiful bays becomes an unforgettable experience. A true highlight: just one hour from Agadir, Paradise Valley reveals a stunning landscape of gorges, palm groves, almond trees, flowing streams and natural springs. Legend has it that Jimi Hendrix gave the valley its name in the 1960s. Hike through a forest along small streams to waterfalls and natural pools, where you can take a refreshing swim.
In just one day, discover the fertile Tiout Valley. During a stop in the “little Marrakesh,” admire the 6 km-long city walls, explore the small souk with its traditional craftsmanship or take a break with a freshly squeezed orange juice. Your guide will then accompany you to the Tiout oasis, a Berber village at the foot of the Anti-Atlas Mountains, located around 30 kilometres from Taroudant.
A beautiful palm grove stretches between several villages with red ochre houses, creating a truly idyllic landscape. From the hilltop, the Kasbah of Tiout offers sweeping views over the lush greenery and the desert beyond. You will then be welcomed to a local’s own home, where a delicious, authentic lunch awaits.
Souss Massa National Park spans 33,800 hectares between the mouth of the Souss Massa River and the Atlantic Ocean, encompassing seven villages known for their traditional Berber craftsmanship. The park is internationally renowned for its unique birdlife, including the rare Northern Bald Ibis. At several designated observation points, you can admire these species in their natural habitat.
Discover the coastline of Souss Massa National Park, from endless sandy beaches to dramatic cliffs overlooking the ocean.
